1963-2020
On Thursday, November 26, 2020 Michael DeMar Thurman, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed at the age of 57.

Michael was born on May 12, 1963 in Fallon, Nevada to DeMar and Gail (Frampton) Thurman. An avid student, Michael received a Doctorate Degree in Political Science from Boston University, Masters Degree from George Washington University and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Michael was a State Department Alumni and a recognized expert in Dutch Political History. He worked as an educator throughout his life, most recently as a professor of Political Science at New York University, Fordham and Hofstra Universities. He was married to Randall Goya,of San Antonio TX, for 17 years.

The oldest of four children, Michael loved to cook and often thrilled his siblings by bringing home exotic foods for the family to try. He discovered a lifelong passion for travel and natural talent for languages early, as a high school exchange student. Michael had an adventurous spirit, he spent many years living abroad in New Zealand, Holland, Germany, Austria, and The Czech Republic. He was fluent in both Dutch and German. With his quick wit and keen sense of fun, he often inspired a feeling of adventure among his family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Jamie. He is survived by his father DeMar, mother Gail, brother Clay, sister Jennifer, his nephew Nicholas, and niece Madison.
